Irony

Posted by: | May 23, 2009 | No Comment |

Ohhhhh the irony of my life.

So. The weather outside is abso-frickin-lutely beautiful today.
The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the grass is green, and there is a gentle breeze.
Which means that it is my duty as a human being to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, right?

WRONG. Apparently, my teachers don’t understand the concept of the weekends.
Weekends are meant to be a time when you can relax a bit after a long hard week of work.
However, my teachers decide to have a bajillion things due as soon as the weekend is over.
In addition, they time their homework loads throughout the year, it seems, so that you have the most homework when the weather is the best. When the weather is horrible, there isn’t as much homework and you end up with some free time, but little to do during that free time. AUGH!

So now that i’ve wasted more time than I can afford, I suppose I should get back to work… (I bet you anything that as soon as I get done with my work, the weather will take a turn for the worse) May the sun shine over your day =]

Spring!

Posted by: | March 20, 2009 | 8 Comments |

Nature’s message to you:

Testing, testing, 1 2 3
Is the mic on? Okay.
Ladies and gentlemen,
welcome to the spring of 2009!
Isn’t it lovely?
The tulips and daffodills and–
What? It’s not lovely?
Shoot.
Where are you? Ohio?
I’ll send my people over there
and they’ll fix it up in no time.
Oh wait. Hang on.
Ahem. Hello? Yes, yes. Mmhmm.
I need Agent S to send his team to Ohio.
Pronto.
What do you mean, he’s busy elsewhere?
Florida? Can’t he change his schedule?
Can’t spare a single ray?
When’s the earliest he has an opening?
Fine. Mmhmm. Bye.
Sorry about that.
It appears as though we’re having some
…technical difficulties.
Spring will be delayed until further notice.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Till then, adieu!

I know, right? The weather? Honestly? Seriously?

Yep.

I have no idea what the weather’s like anywhere else in the world, but here in good old Ohio, I’m definitely ready for spring. It’s been winter for much too long. I’m tired of wearing sweaters and I’m dying to break out my flip flops.

Speaking of Ohio, allow me to rant about the Ohio Graduation Test. We’ve been taking it this whole week and I personally feel as though I’ve wasted about 10 hours of my precious life. It may not sound like much, but it’s a lot to me. I can think of at least a hundred things I would rather have done with those 10 hours rather than take the OGT. For one, the OGT is a complete joke. In fact, most standardized tests are. Why? Because they’re all the same. Literally. I feel like I’ve taken the same level test since 3rd grade. The level of difficulty doesn’t change at all. For example, last year on the Terra Novas, the second question on the math section was this:

-2 + 7 = ?

a) 2
b) -9
c) 5
d) 9

So naturally, I filled in b) on the answer sheet. Just kidding. But honestly, isn’t that pathetic? I was a ninth grader. That’s right. NINE. Meaning I was taking Algebra 2. I could have answered that question in 3rd grade too. Plus, some people are just not good test takers. They get nervous and can’t think straight. Others skip a question but forget to skip a blank on the answer document as well. Do standardized tests actually show knowledge and proof of learning?

Either way, I’m extremely glad that OGTs are over because I don’t have to waste my life anymore. If anyone at all is aware that this blog exists, let me know what you think. Also, let me know how the weather is wherever you are. Peace out.

All the world’s a stage and most of us are horribly unrehearsed.
I’m still waiting for my script.
